In the Air by RJ Coste

In the Air begins with Ray, a multilingual teenager born to expatriate professors in Colombia, whose dreams of working at the U.N. are crushed during a horrific terrorist attack at a political rally in Bogotá. Left scarred and orphaned, Ray must navigate a world of pain and loss, leaning on his aunt Gabby and his troubled uncle Julian. As Ray fights to rebuild his life, Julian’s reckless choices—smuggling drugs and chasing fleeting pleasures—pull him into a dangerous underworld.

Why You’ll Love In the Air

Ray was different. Born to two expatriate professors studying and teaching in Colombia, he spent winters there while his family returned to their home in San Diego, California—El Reo Ranchero—during Christmas and summer breaks. Ray had friends in both places, but his Colombian friends held a special place in his heart. Growing up within the university walls and attending a private high school, he travelled by limousine to and from town, receiving both protection and education along with dual citizenship. He studied languages, dreaming of working at the U.N. when he grew older.
